Nice quick review of AVG. When you do your in-depth review, also measure the effect AVG has on boot time. I used AVG for years but recently switched to Avast! (which works well) because AVG doubled, yes doubled, my boot and shutdown times. Their tech support said that was normal. Sigh…

Two words: Research and Development. It takes a lot of time, money, and resources to create good software and hardware. While I myself never buy software, the $50 preorder price for Windows 7 last July was a great deal. Now it’s $120. So I agree on the overpriced thing.

But research and development takes a lot of resources.

I very dissappointed that you still need to install virus software to fix security leaks.
So you have to pay around 100 dollars a year to matain your system.
APPLE is the way to go.

Thanks for the info.

Though I prefer AVG! Not because it is free but because my experience in AVG is great. I’ve been using AVG for 6 months in my Win7 already and so far there is no problem in my system.

I am using AVG Internet Security 9.0. I bought it for about 57$ last April.

Thanks for the resourceful review!

I got my first look at Windows 7 this week and my initial reaction was “so far, so good.”

“So far” being the key phrase of that statement.

New operating systems are almost always an improvement, and will almost always generate some sort of enthusiasm or buzz within the first couple months.

But until the user sits down and gets a feel for what a new OS is all about (outside the VirtualBox), you’re not going to understand the product’s deficiencies … or its notable improvements.

The reality being you need at least 4-6 months under your belt before you can conclude how successful an OS is for you. And that’s the bottom line, how successful is this system to you and your work environment?

How on earth does one remove the annoying hold right mouse button for 3 seconds and windows media center shows up whenever it wants feature? I have a program where I need to use the right mouse button to drag windows around with and if I don’t move them fast enough windows media center drops in.

boisterousnob your a *********. you do realize that the production costs of windows 7 is very small compared to windows vista? for christ sake, windows 7 was built off vista to save time. before you speak you should know what **** your talking about. Microsoft has always been overpriced. I haven’t payed for a MS product since windows 2000NT. Microsoft doesn’t need the money, at all. If we can get the basic edition for such a cheap price, then why skyrocket each other edition? Its called corner the market. MS is the only operating system that you pay for now a days except maybe linux, but you can get that for free without it being illegal anyway, you just pay for the convenience. apple is the same way, charge you out the ass for the operating system. the reason they get away with it? because both apple and microsoft over charge. the only difference is a pc is upgradeable to a far more superior side than mac. If they both overcharge, then no-one is technically cornering the market. Its like nvidia, they overcharge for their chips, but then again so does intel, so its okay because two different company’s do it.
