Thoughts on Windows 7 Deals

The Student Discount and the Family Pack are pretty good. The rest of the deals aren’t as impressive. It would be great if Microsoft just ran the 50% off promotion again. That was fun and it helped Windows 7 become Amazon UK’s most preordered product ever.

The HP bundle seems interesting although the other Windows 7 Deals in the US are not very compelling.

The discount is much bigger in the UK After Windows 7 UK sold out, the discount was reduced to 50% -

Will Windows 7 Run Out of Stock?

It did. It’s back in stock at a 50% discount for Windows 7 Home Premium (still veyr good) and 18% for Professional (disappointing).

There is some probability that the Windows 7 UK Sale causes a sell-out. It didn’t happen in the US. However, France had limited stock and it’s already sold out.

The UK does have a 50% sale which makes it slightly more likely. To be on the safe side – go ahead and order. You can always cancel it later.

The Windows 7 Team Blog has indicated that Windows 7 RTM will be announced soon and that it will be available early to TechNet and MSDN subscribers – so do keep in mind that if you qualify you might as well get it early and not buy a retail version.

Overall demand for Windows 7 is strong and it seems to be strong in Europe too – judging from the super-quick sell-out in France. It’ll be interesting to see whether stock in UK and Germany lasts till August 14th (Hint: probably not ).

Windows 7 Sale – My Recommendation

I’ve been using the Windows 7 Beta since January and it’s been great. I’m now working with the Windows 7 Release Candidate and its better. Windows 7  is a really good operating system that eliminates the performance issues Vista had and is getting great reviews. You should definitely get it – especially during this half-price sale.
