Windows 7 Key People – Steve Sinofsky
Update: Windows 7 Beta Key available now.
Steve Sinofsky basically owned all of Office inside of Microsoft, and did a kick-ass job. When Windows Vista development turned into a snail paced death-march, Mr. Sinofsky was brought in to lead the Windows team. Windows 7 is the first Windows version that will be a full Sinofsky work.
There are a few things that are already evident -
- Quicker Release Schedules.
- Consistent, Iterative Changes.
- The Office 12 Ribbon incorporated into some Windows 7 features.
- Windows 7 will release in less than 3 years. As compared to the 5+ year Vista life-cycle.
And there will be more evidence of how good of a job Steve Sinofsky does, as we see the full release of Windows 7 come out, and in future editions. Office was and is one of the most respected organizations within Microsoft, and Microsoft Office has remained a market dominating product and a key Microsoft money maker. With Vista, Microsoft really hurt themselves, and Windows 7 should go a long way towards helping Microsoft maintain the market dominance it has enjoyed for 15+ years. His discussion regarding Windows 7 and NetBooks really shows that he’s in tune with where the market is headed.
You can find Mr. Sinofsky discussing Windows 7 features and more at the Engineering Windows 7 Blog. And here’s a really good interview at Ars Technica of Mr. Sinofsky discussing Windows 7 and Netbooks.
Also, in a way, Steve Sinfosky is the captain of the Windows Ship – the direction of the Windows product, its successes and failures are determined to a huge extent by Mr. Sinofsky. His influence is probably matched only by Steve Ballmer and Ray Ozzie, and even that is not for sure – he might very well be the single most important person as far as Windows 7 is concerned.
