Windows 7 Rumours and Updates – Sept 25th 2008

Here’s the latest bunch of updates -

  1. Next month at Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference attendees will get a pre-beta version of Windows 7. Its the first PDC since 2005.
  2. Release date estimates from end 2009 to early 2010 have been flying around the blogosphere.
  3. Windows 7 will use the Ribbon toolbar interface that the latest version of Office uses (and which really rocks after the initial wtf moments).
  4. Microsoft plans to remove some apps likeĀ  Windows Mail, Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker to keep the OS cleaner. It will instead let users download Microsoft’s Windows Live variants of these apps as free downloads.
  5. There was a controversy around leaked screenshots – one of the websites that had the images was contacted by Microsoft’s lawyers (rumours) and another has been removed by its hosting provider. So i’m reluctant to share the images ;)
